K1 | Db2 Meets AI Agents: Your Database's New Digital Workforce
Monday October 27, 2025 9:00am - 10:00am WIB
Reactive database administration simply can’t keep pace with today’s complex data environments. Enter agentic agents that transform Db2 into a self-managing database. These agents continuously monitor performance, predict bottlenecks, and optimize operations without human intervention. They tune queries, manage storage, and handle routine maintenance — freeing DBAs to focus on high-value, strategic work. Join this session where, Haakon Roberts, Director, Db2 for z/OS & Tools, Distinguished Engineer, and CTO, IBM z Data & AI and Martin Oberhofer, IBM Vice President and Distinguished Engineer, Data Core Products,, will show how AI agents diagnose issues in real time, implement corrective actions, and even learn from past incidents to prevent future problems. You’ll also gain a clear view of the architectural requirements, security considerations, and best practices for building confidence in autonomous database operations. Whether you’re responsible for a single Db2 instance or managing hundreds across diverse environments, this session delivers practical insight into making AI agents indispensable members of your database team.

A3 | Db2 13 for z/OS - Five Key Features to Drive Performance and Innovation
Monday October 27, 2025 2:00pm - 3:00pm WIB
Db2 for z/OS continues to evolve with features that make database management more efficient, scalable, and responsive. Recent enhancements in Db2 for z/OS focus on making database administration more efficient, with tools and features that automate processes, improve performance, and minimize downtime.
Description:
1. Package Validity at Statement Level (FL502 & FL504)

Introduces statement-level package validation.
Valid statements in a package remain executable even when some are invalidated.Enhances performance with incremental binding, reducing the need for full package rebinding.
New catalog table SYSPACKSTMTDEP records package dependencies at the statement level.

2. SQL Data Insights (FL500)

Leverages AI and deep learning with vector-embedding models to enhance query insights.
Functions like AI_ANALOGY, AI_COMMONALITY, and AI_SIMILARITY help detect data patterns, offering cognitive intelligence directly within SQL queries.

3. Current Lock Timeout Register

New CURRENT LOCK TIMEOUT register allows setting lock timeouts at the application or SQL statement level.
Offers better control over lock waits, overriding system-wide defaults for more efficient handling of transaction concurrency.

4. Online Conversion of Tables from PBG to PBR (FL500)

Simplifies online conversion of Partitioned-by-Growth (PBG) tables to Partitioned-by-Range (PBR) tables.
Reduces performance impact with minimal downtime, using ALTER and REORG utilities for smoother conversion.

5. Deadlock Resolution Priority Variable (FL501)

Introduces DEADLOCK_RESOLUTION_PRIORITY to define thread priority for deadlock resolution.
Higher priority threads are less likely to be terminated, enhancing application stability during deadlock situations.

B5 | Build a lightweight monitor to identify SQL workload tuning potential
Monday October 27, 2025 4:30pm - 5:30pm WIB
In this session, you will learn how to capture SQL statistics from Db2’s dynamic statement cache and how to combine them with the information from your EXPLAIN tables. The code that we use will be available for download after the session. Discover how to identify the queries that will benefit most from tuning, allowing you to focus your valuable time on those that matter. We start with simple metrics like RID list errors and work our way up to other performance metrics like top consumers, I/O statistics, lock contention, and more. You will learn how to track the performance and resource consumption of a given SQL statement over time, which makes it possible to spot trends. Finally, we will show how to detect access path changes in dynamic SQL workload. This is a common problem in environments with heavy dynamic workload. Something as simple as a single RUNSTATS execution on one of the involved tables can cause unexpected changes to the access path that Db2 chooses. Using historic explain information, these changes become visible, and you can take immediate action.

The joining of two or more tables in SQL is a great feature of the SQL language. So often we need to combine data from more than one table into the same row output. Depending on your logic needed, the language provides us with different types of joins. This presentation starts off basic and builds into more in-depth logic and performance when having the need to process more than one table in a query. The different types of joins presented are:
Inner Joins (Inner join vs comma delimited syntax)
Left Outer Joins
Right Outer Joins
Full Outer Joins
Outer Joins with 'On clause Extensions'
Self Joins (Same table in FROM clause more than once)
This presentation will:
Take you deeper into SQL join logicHelp udertstand when specific joins are needed Understand the performance of joinsUnderstand 'On Clause Extensions' and when to use themUnderstand the need for the same table in FROM clause more than once *Self Joins)
