C10 | Evolution of Db2 into Cloud environments at Allianz.AT!
Wednesday October 29, 2025 10:20am - 11:20am WIB
ABS is the one of the core insurance applications used in Allianz insurance entities worldwide running on Db2 on Linux. Because of Allianz's strategy to migrate all systems to cloud where possible, it had to be investigated how to move ABS to the cloud. A First step was to use a lift and shift approach, where an ABS backend was created as an EC2 instance. But the target is to have a Db2 service as native cloud service available that meets the customer specific requirements specially in relation to ABS because currently available SaaS services failed on this. This presentation describes how various challenges have to be addressed to achieve this.

Wednesday October 29, 2025 10:20am - 11:20am WIB
Being a Db2 consultant for more than 25 years I often face the challenge that I had to use EXPLAIN as part of a Performance analysis.
Now we have Tools like Visual Explain in IBM Data Studio and Data Management Console (DMC) as well as db2exfmt and db2caem as command line tools - but what do I do when I have no IBM Data Studio or DMC around and no access to a Db2 command line?
In my presentation I will show how to do EXPLAIN on a SQL statement and analyze the SQL Access Plan from within almost any SQL Frontend tool (DBeaver, Squirrel, DBVisualizer and others)
I will show that for

"normal" EXPLAIN
EXPLAIN from a Section in Package Cache or Sections in Activity Event Monitor tables
EXPLAIN with Section Actuals
and more ...

F11 | Desperate Measures - How to Relieve the Db2 Optimizer of its Duties
Wednesday October 29, 2025 11:30am - 12:30pm WIB
Optimal query access plans are essential for good database performance and it is the query optimizer's job to choose the best one. However, sometimes even the best statistics or tricky query tuning will produce the access plan you want. Or your application is effectively down, due to a poorly-performing query, and there isn't time to implement best practices. When these situations arise, Db2 optimization profiles and guidelines can be used to correct the access plan and get your application performing well again - quickly. Optimization profiles can specify various aspects of an access plan, can control automatic query rewriting or can control the optimizer's plan search space. Guidelines can be specified with or without modifying your application. This presentation will show you what options are available and how to use them effectively.

PSP11 | DBAs - The Unsung Heroes of DevOps - Bridging the Gap Between Database and Application Teams
Wednesday October 29, 2025 3:20pm - 4:20pm WIB
As a DBA, you’re responsible for ensuring the stability, performance, and compliance of critical systems. But in today’s fast-moving development cycles, application teams need to deliver faster—and manual processes around database changes can slow everything down. Schema updates, SQL changes, and stored procedure deployments often remain disconnected from the rest of the DevOps pipeline, creating friction, delays, and risk. What if you could empower developers while still maintaining full visibility and control?

From a Developer’s Perspective: The DBA is My Hero When They
• Make it easy to deploy database changes as part of application releases
• Help prevent last-minute surprises or rollbacks due to database conflicts
• Streamline collaboration without compromising data quality or performance
• Offer guardrails that catch potential issues early in the process

When DBAs Lead with Automation and Collaboration, They Can
• Improve the quality and consistency of changes with clear, auditable workflows
• Eliminate repetitive manual tasks while enforcing organizational standards
• Coordinate structural changes, migrations, and approvals across environments • Align application and database updates to minimize deployment risk
• Focus on strategic performance and optimization efforts rather than firefighting

By integrating database changes into modern development workflows, DBAs can reduce delays, increase reliability, and enhance collaboration across teams.

This session explores how forward-thinking DBAs are driving modernization—delivering trusted, high-quality changes at speed, while enabling developers to move faster with confidence.

D13 | Db2 for Agentic AI: New Capabilities, Frameworks, and Real-World Use Cases
Wednesday October 29, 2025 4:30pm - 5:30pm WIB
Many enterprise AI projects still rely on moving data out of databases into separate systems for training and inference. This often adds delays, increases risk, and makes it harder to maintain secure and reliable applications. Db2 takes a different approach. It has long supported in-database machine learning and AI, and it continues to evolve. New features—such as vector search, model inference, and integration with AI frameworks—make Db2 well-suited for building modern enterprise AI systems. In this talk, I’ll walk through the AI capabilities available in Db2 today—both existing and newly added. I’ll show how they help teams build AI applications more efficiently, keep data secure, and reduce complexity across the stack. A special focus will be on how these features enable the development of modern AI agents—applications that combine reasoning, retrieval, and structured data to solve real business problems inside the enterprise.

What works best?
This presentation will look at what works best in what scenarios, which tools are deprecated, and which are still being improved. What things should we be looking at? What should we be running to gather historical data, and what tools should we have near the top of our toolbox for emergencies? Since no one tool is best in all scenarios, we will try to present use cases that demonstrate when to reach for which tool.

Indexes can also be built on expressions. This presentation not only looks at these more unsual indexes and how they can be used to speed up queries, but also investigates index variations like Multi-Dimentional Clustering indexes and index processing techniques like index anding and index oring.

A14 | Tools maintenance our way
Wednesday October 29, 2025 5:40pm - 6:40pm WIB
One important task for a Db2 for z/OS sysprog is to install and maintain Db2 tools. Most changes to tools are handled as continuous delivery. Before becoming a sysprog I had no idea how much time could be spent on all these tools. Getting new PTFs, installing them, verifying the changes and sometimes backing out the changes.
We have developed a way to do all this work as smooth as possible. The purpose of this session is to give an overall description of SMP/E, Tools Customizer and our process. You who has never work with tools maintenance will get an insight in the work and you who do this regularly will hopefully get new ideas on how to do it more smoothly.
As of today we only use IBM tooling, but I think this process could be applied to tools from other verdors too.

F14 | Create Stored Procedure to 'Reorg Table' including table function for Select Reorg() and REST-Services
Wednesday October 29, 2025 5:40pm - 6:40pm WIB
A lot of people use Data and Tables in Db2 z/OS but don't know about Tablespaces and Utilities. Wouldn't it be nice to reorg or runstats a table via select or by calling a Rest-Service provided by Db2 itself, at least in test and development environments?
We will create a stored procedure as a wrapper for DSNUTILU. Because SPUFI and DSNTEP4 do not support CALL-Statements, we will include that procedure in a function which we can use in Select, so SELECT * FROM TABLE(REORG_TABLE('schema', 'tablename')) becomes valid. While Utilities use Tablespaces, we'll provide a new Api to use Tables instead.
We will also create a Db2-REST-Service which calls our Wrapper. Now almost anybody from all platforms can reorg a table in Db2 - using Ansible or even Excel if we want to.
Reorg is only an example, other Utilities are provided as well.
In fact we'll create a bunch of Procedures to Reorg Tablespace, Reorg Table and save Utility's Sysprint.
