SUMMARY:A3 | Db2 13 for z/OS - Five Key Features to Drive Performance and Innovation
DESCRIPTION:Db2 for z/OS continues to evolve with features that make database management more efficient\, scalable\, and responsive. Recent enhancements in Db2 for z/OS focus on making database administration more efficient\, with tools and features that automate processes\, improve performance\, and minimize downtime. Description: 1. Package Validity at Statement Level (FL502 & FL504) Introduces statement-level package validation. Valid statements in a package remain executable even when some are invalidated.Enhances performance with incremental binding\, reducing the need for full package rebinding. New catalog table SYSPACKSTMTDEP records package dependencies at the statement level. 2. SQL Data Insights (FL500) Leverages AI and deep learning with vector-embedding models to enhance query insights. Functions like AI_ANALOGY\, AI_COMMONALITY\, and AI_SIMILARITY help detect data patterns\, offering cognitive intelligence directly within SQL queries. 3. Current Lock Timeout Register New CURRENT LOCK TIMEOUT register allows setting lock timeouts at the application or SQL statement level. Offers better control over lock waits\, overriding system-wide defaults for more efficient handling of transaction concurrency. 4. Online Conversion of Tables from PBG to PBR (FL500) Simplifies online conversion of Partitioned-by-Growth (PBG) tables to Partitioned-by-Range (PBR) tables. Reduces performance impact with minimal downtime\, using ALTER and REORG utilities for smoother conversion. 5. Deadlock Resolution Priority Variable (FL501) Introduces DEADLOCK_RESOLUTION_PRIORITY to define thread priority for deadlock resolution. Higher priority threads are less likely to be terminated\, enhancing application stability during deadlock situations. SUMMARY:B5 | Build a lightweight monitor to identify SQL workload tuning potential
DESCRIPTION:In this session\, you will learn how to capture SQL statistics from Db2’s dynamic statement cache and how to combine them with the information from your EXPLAIN tables. The code that we use will be available for download after the session. Discover how to identify the queries that will benefit most from tuning\, allowing you to focus your valuable time on those that matter. We start with simple metrics like RID list errors and work our way up to other performance metrics like top consumers\, I/O statistics\, lock contention\, and more. You will learn how to track the performance and resource consumption of a given SQL statement over time\, which makes it possible to spot trends. Finally\, we will show how to detect access path changes in dynamic SQL workload. This is a common problem in environments with heavy dynamic workload. Something as simple as a single RUNSTATS execution on one of the involved tables can cause unexpected changes to the access path that Db2 chooses. Using historic explain information\, these changes become visible\, and you can take immediate action.

SUMMARY:E6 | Automating and operationalizing data-driven AI with Db2 SQL Data Insights - new APIs for full control
DESCRIPTION:Db2 for z/OS 13 introduced SQL Data Insights which combines deep learning in artificial intelligence (AI) with advanced IBM Z technologies -- to infuse the Db2 engine with SQL-based semantic queries on user tables and views. The term of large database models (LDMs) in analogy to large language models (LLMs) was introduced to explain how in-database AI can reveal relationships and insights in enterprise data which were previously undiscoverable with SQL. During the past 2 IDUG conferences both the basic principles as well as real business use cases were presented. The first SQL Data Insights deliveries obviously focussed on outcome rather than on operationalization and automation. 2025 updates closed the gap to manage and administer SQL Data Insights and to deploy models in an automatable\, repeatable\, and controlled way via APIs. This session explains and demonstrates how these new SQL Data Insights APIs can boost the efficiency when managing and deploying SQL Data Insights models in Db2\, from development to production.

SUMMARY:D7 | Db2 – the database of choice for High Availability in a Hybrid/Multi-Cloud Environment
DESCRIPTION:It is evident from recent market reports that the Hybrid/Multi-Cloud market size is in billions of dollars and growing. Reliability and High Availability are amongst the factors that are driving this growth. Indeed\, there are numerous recent examples of one of the major public clouds going offline for a number of hours. Indeed\, this is a concern one of our customers came to us with – can Db2 be used for HA across multiple clouds? The answer was\, yes\, absolutely! In this presentation\, we showcase Db2 as the database of choice in a Hybrid/Multi-Cloud environment to provide high availability using the HADR feature. We show how workloads can very quickly and efficiently be moved between different cloud environments in case the primary cloud environment becomes offline\, sharing hints\, tips\, and gotchas along the way. We will look at primarily two use cases – the first involves the primary being on-premises and standbys being on multiple public clouds (for example\, AWS\, Azure\, GCP). The second use case is an all-cloud environment\, with the primary being one of the public clouds and standbys being on other multiple public clouds.

SUMMARY:F8 | Tales of a DBA with UDFs and Store Procedures
DESCRIPTION:I would like to talk about the Stored Procedures from a DBA point of view\, as starting points: - Differences between SP and UDF\, and some information about what they are. The different SP and how to check if you have still any External SQL\, that is deprecated and how to migrate them to Native. - How to display their status\, checking whether they are started or not\, among other things - How to consult the WLM where they run\, and check with the command /D WLM\, APPLENV whether its available or not\, and how if there’s a problem with the SP\, normally you can find the error there\, for example if it’s giving some ASUTIME error. How to check our WLM environments\, in order to see if we have them with the right parameters: NUMTCB\, MNSPAS\, ... - ZPARM related to them\, as the “new” MAX_UDF. - Talking about the DSNTIJPM Premigration Reports Db2 V13\, because Report 19 is for checking the native SQL procedures and compiled SQL created prior to Db2 11. So if you have any\, you have to regenerate them before moving to V13. How to check and how to regenerate them. I had to do this for some before moving to V13. - Show some of the IBM Stored procedures provided by IBM\, for example I always use the DSNTEJ6Z installation job- for calling the ADMIN_INFO_SYSPARM and get the ZPARM of any subsystem. - The ADMIN_INFO_SQL\, sometimes you can need it for sending it to IBM support - The one for doing a WLM_REFRESH (DSNTEJ6W)\, I find this interesting for example\, for giving at Development the option to the developers to do themselves the WLM refresh\, only at development\, that way they don’t need to ask for the same to Ops or zOS teams. - Other options that can be discussed with the application are these parameters: · STOP AFTER SYSTEM DEFAULT FAILURES · STOP AFTER nn FAILURES · CONTINUE AFTER FAILURES . STAY RESIDENT - The stored procedures to run utilities or execute Db2 commands: DSNUTILU\, DSNUTILV\, … - Some interesting provided UDF as the ones at DSNTEJ3U: DAYNAME\, CURRENCY\, … or the interesting WEATHER. Mainly the Db2 people hear about a Stored Procedure when there’s a problem. Maybe you are the one also that DROP or CREATE it\, but for sure\, if any of them starts to consume a lot\, or to loop\, or to have some trouble\, you will be the one contacted for checking where the problem is.

SUMMARY:A9 | Db2 System and Application monitoring and alert system approach
DESCRIPTION:We monitor Db2 systems with Broadcom Detector for Db2 for z/OS and Subsystem Analyzer for Db2 for z/OS products. While monitoring the Db2 system\, we also collect the data of these products by loading them into DB2 tables. We store this data\, which has been accumulated for more than 10 years\, in our statistics warehouse. We keep this data in a separate data sharing and regularly feed it to IDAA. We have created many different structures on the data in this statistics warehouse. In our Inhouse developed product\, which has been patented for reorg tables\, we determine the time when the tables are least used in order to minimize the effect of switch phase. We generate near-real time alarms for worsening sql and dbrms on the data we keep at 15-minute intervals. With the dashboard we have prepared\, we can show all the information about DBRM\, TRX or batch jobs in Db2\, statistics about their past work\, table accesses\, and which transactions come from which channels. And there are many different structures that we have created based on this. We would be very happy if we could share these structures with everyone and give them ideas.

SUMMARY:D9 | Monitoring the new multi-tier storage architecture when using Native Cloud Object Storage
DESCRIPTION:Db2 v11.5.9 introduced a new Native Cloud Object Storage (NCOS) feature for Db2 Warehouse to decouple compute and storage\, and improve scalability\, reliability\, and performance. This feature introduces a new multi-tier storage hierarchy with a local cache to compensate for the difference I/O characteristics of Cloud Object Storage. For this reason\, the feature also introduced new monitoring elements that allow the users to see the physical input/output (I/O) activity in each layer. In this talk\, we will dive into the new multi-tier storage architecture\, and the new monitoring metrics introduced to discover what they cover\, how they work\, and how they can be used to get useful feedback for your running applications. SUMMARY:C10 | Evolution of Db2 into Cloud environments at Allianz.AT!
DESCRIPTION:ABS is the one of the core insurance applications used in Allianz insurance entities worldwide running on Db2 on Linux. Because of Allianz's strategy to migrate all systems to cloud where possible\, it had to be investigated how to move ABS to the cloud. A First step was to use a lift and shift approach\, where an ABS backend was created as an EC2 instance. But the target is to have a Db2 service as native cloud service available that meets the customer specific requirements specially in relation to ABS because currently available SaaS services failed on this. This presentation describes how various challenges have to be addressed to achieve this.

SUMMARY:F11 | Desperate Measures - How to Relieve the Db2 Optimizer of its Duties
DESCRIPTION:Optimal query access plans are essential for good database performance and it is the query optimizer's job to choose the best one. However\, sometimes even the best statistics or tricky query tuning will produce the access plan you want. Or your application is effectively down\, due to a poorly-performing query\, and there isn't time to implement best practices. When these situations arise\, Db2 optimization profiles and guidelines can be used to correct the access plan and get your application performing well again - quickly. Optimization profiles can specify various aspects of an access plan\, can control automatic query rewriting or can control the optimizer's plan search space. Guidelines can be specified with or without modifying your application. This presentation will show you what options are available and how to use them effectively.

SUMMARY:PSP11 | DBAs - The Unsung Heroes of DevOps - Bridging the Gap Between Database and Application Teams
DESCRIPTION:As a DBA\, you’re responsible for ensuring the stability\, performance\, and compliance of critical systems. But in today’s fast-moving development cycles\, application teams need to deliver faster—and manual processes around database changes can slow everything down. Schema updates\, SQL changes\, and stored procedure deployments often remain disconnected from the rest of the DevOps pipeline\, creating friction\, delays\, and risk. What if you could empower developers while still maintaining full visibility and control? From a Developer’s Perspective: The DBA is My Hero When They • Make it easy to deploy database changes as part of application releases • Help prevent last-minute surprises or rollbacks due to database conflicts • Streamline collaboration without compromising data quality or performance • Offer guardrails that catch potential issues early in the process When DBAs Lead with Automation and Collaboration\, They Can • Improve the quality and consistency of changes with clear\, auditable workflows • Eliminate repetitive manual tasks while enforcing organizational standards • Coordinate structural changes\, migrations\, and approvals across environments • Align application and database updates to minimize deployment risk • Focus on strategic performance and optimization efforts rather than firefighting By integrating database changes into modern development workflows\, DBAs can reduce delays\, increase reliability\, and enhance collaboration across teams. This session explores how forward-thinking DBAs are driving modernization—delivering trusted\, high-quality changes at speed\, while enabling developers to move faster with confidence.

SUMMARY:D13 | Db2 for Agentic AI: New Capabilities\, Frameworks\, and Real-World Use Cases
DESCRIPTION:Many enterprise AI projects still rely on moving data out of databases into separate systems for training and inference. This often adds delays\, increases risk\, and makes it harder to maintain secure and reliable applications. Db2 takes a different approach. It has long supported in-database machine learning and AI\, and it continues to evolve. New features—such as vector search\, model inference\, and integration with AI frameworks—make Db2 well-suited for building modern enterprise AI systems. In this talk\, I’ll walk through the AI capabilities available in Db2 today—both existing and newly added. I’ll show how they help teams build AI applications more efficiently\, keep data secure\, and reduce complexity across the stack. A special focus will be on how these features enable the development of modern AI agents—applications that combine reasoning\, retrieval\, and structured data to solve real business problems inside the enterprise.

SUMMARY:E13 | Here's Looking at YOU\, Db2!
DESCRIPTION:There are many tools to gather information and many ways to monitor things as they happen in Db2. What works best? This presentation will look at what works best in what scenarios\, which tools are deprecated\, and which are still being improved. What things should we be looking at? What should we be running to gather historical data\, and what tools should we have near the top of our toolbox for emergencies? Since no one tool is best in all scenarios\, we will try to present use cases that demonstrate when to reach for which tool.

SUMMARY:A14 | Tools maintenance our way
DESCRIPTION:One important task for a Db2 for z/OS sysprog is to install and maintain Db2 tools. Most changes to tools are handled as continuous delivery. Before becoming a sysprog I had no idea how much time could be spent on all these tools. Getting new PTFs\, installing them\, verifying the changes and sometimes backing out the changes. We have developed a way to do all this work as smooth as possible. The purpose of this session is to give an overall description of SMP/E\, Tools Customizer and our process. You who has never work with tools maintenance will get an insight in the work and you who do this regularly will hopefully get new ideas on how to do it more smoothly. As of today we only use IBM tooling\, but I think this process could be applied to tools from other verdors too.

SUMMARY:F14 | Create Stored Procedure to 'Reorg Table' including table function for Select Reorg() and REST-Services
DESCRIPTION:A lot of people use Data and Tables in Db2 z/OS but don't know about Tablespaces and Utilities. Wouldn't it be nice to reorg or runstats a table via select or by calling a Rest-Service provided by Db2 itself\, at least in test and development environments? We will create a stored procedure as a wrapper for DSNUTILU. Because SPUFI and DSNTEP4 do not support CALL-Statements\, we will include that procedure in a function which we can use in Select\, so SELECT * FROM TABLE(REORG_TABLE('schema'\, 'tablename')) becomes valid. While Utilities use Tablespaces\, we'll provide a new Api to use Tables instead. We will also create a Db2-REST-Service which calls our Wrapper. Now almost anybody from all platforms can reorg a table in Db2 - using Ansible or even Excel if we want to. Reorg is only an example\, other Utilities are provided as well. In fact we'll create a bunch of Procedures to Reorg Tablespace\, Reorg Table and save Utility's Sysprint.

SUMMARY:F15 | Pedal to The Metal - this is not your Daddy's Accelerator!
DESCRIPTION:The IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator for z/OS(IDAA) has evolved enormously over the last 14 years since its introduction to the DB2 for z/OS world with the result that the IDAA of 2025 is a completely different proposition to customers compared to when it was originally presented to the market back in 2011. As with many new functions and features of Db2 introduced over the years\, it was not love at first with the IDAA\, however\, it is no longer a stand-alone Netezza appliance with periodic refreshes\, limited SQL compatibility and limited use cases. It is in fact a completely different hardware and software solution with multiple deployment options from IFLs on Z\, a z/Linux One machine or even in cloud and it is also a completely new software based on the columnar DB2 BLU DW engine. What this means for customers is that the IDAA of 2025 with lots more functionality and flexibility has become an extremely interesting and feasible solution to the many challenges that customers are facing from classical Analytical applications to Batch processing and OLTP transactions requiring analytical queries on real-time data. This presentation will provide a brief overview of the changes to IDAA since its introduction explaining what and how these changes make the IDAA a completely different proposition for customers in 2025. More importantly\, the presentation will provide a technical explanation of how you can perform an assessment of your environment to be able to evaluate the potential benefits of IDAA in your shop\, or\, if you already have an IDAA\, how you can identify new candidates for IDAA processing. Finally\, the presentation will provide tips and insights from real-world use cases highlighting not only the benefits but also the errors to avoid and the potential problems that you may encounter when offloading work to IDAA
