B4 | Taming Page Splits: Reduced Stress for DBAs in Db2 13
Monday October 27, 2025 3:20pm - 4:20pm WIB
Index page splitting in Db2 for z/OS has long been a source of performance stress for DBAs, particularly in high-volume insert environments. Prior to Db2 13, identifying and resolving these issues was a frustrating process. This session delves into the enhancements introduced in Db2 13 that simplify the management of index page splits. We will explore new capabilities and enhanced real-time statistics provide DBAs with actionable intelligence, enabling them to quickly pinpoint and address problematic page splitting activity. Discover how Db2 13 reduces the stress associated with index performance tuning, offering practical strategies to minimize page splitting and optimize Db2 performance.
This abstract was submitted in GSE Virtual 2025 as well.

B5 | Build a lightweight monitor to identify SQL workload tuning potential
Monday October 27, 2025 4:30pm - 5:30pm WIB
In this session, you will learn how to capture SQL statistics from Db2’s dynamic statement cache and how to combine them with the information from your EXPLAIN tables. The code that we use will be available for download after the session. Discover how to identify the queries that will benefit most from tuning, allowing you to focus your valuable time on those that matter. We start with simple metrics like RID list errors and work our way up to other performance metrics like top consumers, I/O statistics, lock contention, and more. You will learn how to track the performance and resource consumption of a given SQL statement over time, which makes it possible to spot trends. Finally, we will show how to detect access path changes in dynamic SQL workload. This is a common problem in environments with heavy dynamic workload. Something as simple as a single RUNSTATS execution on one of the involved tables can cause unexpected changes to the access path that Db2 chooses. Using historic explain information, these changes become visible, and you can take immediate action.

A9 | Db2 System and Application monitoring and alert system approach
Tuesday October 28, 2025 4:30pm - 5:30pm WIB
We monitor Db2 systems with Broadcom Detector for Db2 for z/OS and Subsystem Analyzer for Db2 for z/OS products. While monitoring the Db2 system, we also collect the data of these products by loading them into DB2 tables. We store this data, which has been accumulated for more than 10 years, in our statistics warehouse. We keep this data in a separate data sharing and regularly feed it to IDAA.
We have created many different structures on the data in this statistics warehouse.
In our Inhouse developed product, which has been patented for reorg tables, we determine the time when the tables are least used in order to minimize the effect of switch phase. We generate near-real time alarms for worsening sql and dbrms on the data we keep at 15-minute intervals. With the dashboard we have prepared, we can show all the information about DBRM, TRX or batch jobs in Db2, statistics about their past work, table accesses, and which transactions come from which channels. And there are many different structures that we have created based on this. We would be very happy if we could share these structures with everyone and give them ideas.
